Tutto pronto a Longano per l’edizione 2025 del rito de Ru Fucaglion in piazza G. Veneziale il 31 Dicembre dalle ore 18:30.
Sorprende come un popolo si porti dietro tradizioni ed usanze e riesca a mantenerne vivo il fascino di generazione in generazione. Questa è la storia del falò, un rituale antico che accomuna, nella sua semplice spettacolarità, culture e popoli diversi. Questa tradizione è sempre stata così radicata, quasi a far parte dell’uomo stesso.
Il fuoco era, ed è ancora oggi, un’occasione per ritrovarsi e stare insieme in un momento di festa, un modo per rivivere ogni volta quel senso di identità che più o meno consciamente ci appartiene. La tradizione Longanese de “Ru Fucaglion” risale ad un tempo in cui dal fuoco dipendeva la vita o la morte di una comunità perché “ Ru Fuoc” significava poter cuocere i cibi, lavorare i metalli, produrre vasi e mattoni d’argilla, proteggere i raccolti grazie alle sue ceneri e nelle stagioni fredde significava calore e vita.
La cerimonia si svolge ogni anno con un rituale tradizionale. Si dà il via alla cerimonia con il suono delle campane all’imbrunire (ore 18:00), la Santa Messa “Te Deum” ed a seguire la comunità si riversa nella piazza dove sono stati posti rami e cataste di legna.
Tutti insieme, con il Sindaco alla testa de corteo ed al suono di organetti ci si dirige verso l’ abitazione dell’uomo più anziano del paese “il saggio custode”. Dinanzi alla porta di quest’ultimo, la popolazione richiede la sua mano per la benedizione e l’accensione del falò che anche per l’anno avvenire dovrà essere di auspicio e protezione. La benedizione del fuoco e la sua accensione segna l’inizio della festa.

RU FUCAGLION Fire Ritual

Edition 2025, Longano ignites the great fire in Piazza G. Veneziale.
It is surprising how a community carries on traditions and customs, managing to keep their charm alive from generation to generation. This is the story of the bonfire, an ancient ritual that unites, in its simple spectacularity, different cultures and peoples. This tradition has always been so deeply rooted, almost as if it were a part of humanity itself.
Fire was, and still is today, an opportunity to come together and enjoy a festive moment, a way to relive that sense of identity that belongs to us more or less consciously. The Longanese tradition of “RU FUCAGLION” dates back to a time when life or death depended on fire because “RU FUOC” meant being able to cook food, work with metals, produce pottery and clay bricks, protect crops with its ashes, and in the cold seasons, it represented warmth and life.
The ceremony takes place every year with a traditional ritual. The ceremony begins with the sound of the bells at dusk (6:00 PM), followed by the Holy Mass “Te Deum,” after which the community gathers in the square where branches and wood piles have been placed. Together, led by the Mayor at the head of the procession and the sound of small organs, they head towards the home of the oldest man in the village, “the wise keeper.” In front of his door, the population asks for his hand for the blessing and the lighting of the bonfire, which for the coming year will also be a sign of hope and protection. The blessing of the fire and its ignition marks the start of the celebration.
